Puerto Peñasco reports 70% covid-19 positivity rate

Puerto Peñasco General Hospital Director Pablo Martínez Valeriano reported, despite progress in vaccination programs, the city currently has a covid-19 positivity rate of 70%. Or rather, for every 10 covid tests done 7 have come back positive.

Martínez Valeriano detailed, given the third wave of coronavirus in Mexico, the local hospital is operating in a mixed fashion with less than 50% occupancy in the area assigned for covid patients.  He noted, despite problems that have arisen from the pandemic, the hospital has the necessary basic supplies and has been able to maintain services at a good level, with priority care to emergencies.

Sonora Secretary of Health Enrique Clausen detailed the state of Sonora has returned to orange (high risk) on the countrywide Covid health alert map after having risen from 19 to 26 points in risk percentage. This specification is for the period from Aug. 9th – 22nd.  Puerto Peñasco remains at yellow (medium risk) on the statewide Anticipa covid-19 risk alert map, for the period through Aug. 15th.
