Puerto Peñasco shrimp yields similar to last year

By José Antonio Pérez

Salvador Sánchez Garcia, head of the Federal Fishing Office in Puerto Peñasco reported the 2018-2019 shrimping season has produced 1,700 tons of shrimp, confirming an abundant presence of the product and yields similar to that of last season.

Sánchez Garcia explained the local fleet is motivated with such high levels of production, yet discouraged by the low price of shrimp and the high prices of diesel fuel that push fishing to be less profitable.

The Federal Fishing official had high praise for the efforts boatyards and fishermen are making to sustain the industry, even when faced with conditions that are not optimal to create greater economic revenue in Puerto Peñasco through fishing.
