Puerto Peñasco responds to water call for Sonoyta

Strong gusts of wind this past week knocked down various electric poles in the neighboring community of Sonoyta, leaving the city without electricity for over 48 hours. This also severely impacted that city’s water supply, spurring a local push for water donations.

Various individuals across Puerto Peñasco launched calls for the donation of purified water to assist our neighbors, including an initiative by district representative-elect Oscar Castro Castro, and the media outlet Cuéntanos Peñasco, among others.  Individual donations were delivered to Sonoyta on Thursday evening, while a City donation of 2500 bottles and 400 liters of purified water were distributed to Sonoyta families on Friday, July 23rd.

Puerto Peñasco Municipal Health Coordinator Erick Francisco Gastelum Pacheco detailed the valuable donations were of tremendous importance as Sonoyta waited for restoration of electric and water services by the weekend.
