Puerto Peñasco remains at medium risk Covid-19 level

Though Puerto Peñasco registered 58 new cases of Covid-19 last week, the city remains at medium risk for a 6th consecutive week on the statewide alert “Anticipa” map, reported Sonora Health Secretary Enrique Clausen Iberri.

In Sonora’s 3rd Covid wave, detailed the Health Secretary, predominant cases have arisen among the unvaccinated, particularly children, teens, and young adults.  He stressed it is essential to protect these groups through ongoing health measures against Covid.

On the current Sonora Anticipa Map, from July 26th – August 1st, 2021, only Guaymas is listed as maximum risk (reg) while Caborca, Hermosillo, Empalme, Cajeme and Navojoa are classified as high risk (orange).  Those at medium risk (yellow) are: Puerto Peñasco, Nogales, Cananea, Huatabampo, and San Luis Rio Colorado, while Agua Prieta is listed at low risk (green).

According to the State health official, in Puerto Peñasco the areas with the highest incidence of Covid-19 presently are the Oriente and Centro neighborhoods.  He detailed there were 6 new cases registered locally over the second-to-last weekend of July, bringing official statistics for the area to 729 cases with 82 deaths from Covid-19 since last year.
