Puerto Peñasco foresees great tourism season

The President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, reports Puerto Peñasco is already experiencing and continues to anticipate tremendous tourism over the summer vacation period.

As a preferred beach destination for people from Arizona, California, and NM stateside (among many others), as well as from Sonora, Chihuahua, and Baja California on this side of the border, Puerto Peñasco welcomes thousands of tourists during the summer vacation period with weekend occupancy levels already registering at 85% to 90% for the months of June and July.

The OCV President indicated there are important events during June, such as this past weekend’s Circus Mexicus of Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, which is an annual tradition for thousands of RCPM fans and attracts some 20,000 people to town, followed quickly by Father’s Day. Shortly thereafter comes the 4th of July, U.S. Independence Day, which is also a noteworthy vacation time.

Around the beginning of July is when the vacation break begins for families in Mexico, and therefore arrival of tourists from across the country. Hotel and condo rates are looking carefully at this sector so vacation budgets are not so severely impacted by the peso – dollar exchange rate.
