Processions leading up to Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe

From Dec. 1st through Dec. 11th, nightly processions (or rather pilgrimages) through the city herald the upcoming celebration of Mexico’s patron saint Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe on the 12th. Community members from different sectors are invited to take part in the nightly gatherings. Departing from various locations each day between 4:30 – 5 p.m., the pilgrimages will make their way to the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church located on Calle Simon Morúa. Check daily departure times, location, and community sector.

The general public is invited to join in the procession particularly on the first night, departing at 5 p.m. from the Virgen de Guadalupe statue in the Old Port. Those participating in the processionals are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food (beans, rice, tuna, bottled water, etc.)

On Dec. 12th, festivities honoring Mexico’s patron saint last throughout the day at the church, including food stands, a fair, folklore, and a traditional castle burning.
