Prior to the Astoria’s historic departure from Puerto Peñasco on January 9th, a brunch on board the vessel is scheduled for January 8th as part of the initial launch of the “Treasures of the Sea of Cortez” route of Britain’s leading independent cruise line Cruise & Maritime Voyages.
Local service provider Eco Fun will be ferrying ticket-holding passengers on Wednesday, Jan. 8th from the FONATUR docks to the Astoria beginning at 11 AM. Once aboard, visitors will be able to tour the boat accompanied by Cruise & Maritime Voyages staff, enjoy a Las Vegas style show, and top off the adventure with an elegant multi-course lunch. Guests are expected to return to city docks by 4:30 PM. Proceeds from the afternoon will be for the scholarship program of the local DIF.
On Thursday, Jan. 9th an event to be held at noon on the Malecón Fundadores in Old Port will mark the historic launch of the Astoria from Puerto Peñasco. Invited guests for the momentous occasion include Sonora Governor Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, Puerto Peñasco mayor Kiko Munro, Cruise & Maritime Voyages Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Dennis, local representative Lázaro Espinoza, Rear Admiral Víctor Manuel Alarcón, Naval Commander in Puerto Peñasco, along with Harbor Master Luis Castro Galán, among others.
Luis Núñez Noreiga, General Coordinator for Tourism Promotion in Sonora (COFETUR) explained this type of cruise, entitled “Treasures of the Sea of Cortez,” with its point of origin in Sonora, contributes greatly to promoting the natural wonders of the region on a global scale.
The Astoria cruise ship, with capacity for 500 passengers and an additional 200 crew, will sail from Puerto Peñasco on January 9th for an 11-day journey along the coasts of the Sea of Cortez with port calls in Topolobampo, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, Loreto, Santa Rosalía, and Guaymas before returning to Puerto Peñasco.
