Preparations underway for second audit of Clean Beach certification

By José Antonio Pérez

A second environmental audit to corroborate compliance with Mexican Beach Sustainability Norms is scheduled to take place in Puerto Peñasco toward the end of the summer. César García González, Operating Coordinator for the Maritime & Federal Land Zone (ZOFEMAT), reported preparations are already underway for the audit, including intensive coordinated work with the local Clean Beach Committee.

This second audit, which will take place in the field during September, will pinpoint any concerns needing to be immediately addressed before the final report is issued.

It’s worth noting, detailed García González, earlier this year Puerto Peñasco received Level 2 Sustainable Clean Beach Recertification for a second year in a row.  He emphasized since initial Clean Beach Certification was achieved in March 2017, coordinated sanitation efforts have been permanent to ensure compliance with Mexican Law on Beach Sustainability.

Furthermore, emphasized the ZOFEMAT Coordinator, Puerto Peñasco is at the forefront in the country by having the first beach in the state of Sonora to achieve Clean Beach Certification. The 1500 linear meters extending from Playa Bonita along Sandy Beach is also the longest stretch of certified Clean Beach in Mexico.
