Pinacate Skate Fest 2016 awards 2K in prizes

Along with the thousands of motorcycles in town for the 16th Annual Rocky Point Rally, skateboarding fans managed to hold their own with the important competition on Nov. 12th, backed by the support of Levis Skateboarding, Cowtown Skateboards, and Skate After School.

The competition, which brought together hundreds of skateboard aficionados from across the region, included 124 competitors from Baja California, Mexico City, and the host state of Sonora along with U.S. skaters from Arizona and California.

Braulio Castro, of Atomic Skate and main organizer of the event, stressed the significance of the competition that managed to bring together those who love skateboarding as well as positioning this as an important region for these types of events.

He detailed $2000 US were given out in prizes, with a first prize of $1000 US to overall winner Kevin Cabellero from Tijuana (Ah Apparel, Tote Griptape, Inskta), $700 US for second place to Chance Carr of Mesa, AZ (ATMC Skate), and $300 US for third place to Cristian Ramsbough from Caborca, Sonora (Emerica shoes, Levi’s Skateboarding, Sierra Hardware, Cowtown). Participants also won skateboarding products including boards, hats, clothing, plus shoes and accessories, all thanks to sponsors.
