Following various months under the current city administration, not to mention years of effort by many, Puerto Peñasco has become the first beach in Sonora to receive Clean Beach Certification. This is a reason to be proud, announced Mayor Kiko Munro, as he spoke during the visit of Mexican Tourism Secretary Enrique de la Madrid and Sonora Governor Claudia Pavlovich on Tuesday.
The mayor thanked both the State and Federal levels for coordinated efforts and participation in helping to obtain the certification, asking for their continued support in comprehensive tourism planning for the area. He emphasized “it is time for Puerto Peñasco to cease being a destination with potential and truly become one with strength.”
The Clean Beach Certification is for an area of 1,736 meters of beach from Playa Bonita to Sandy Beach. Mayor Munro reiterated, with this certification Puerto Peñasco will solidify itself as the port for entry to the Sea of Cortez, as well as one of the most representative tourism spots in northwestern Mexico.
