Peñasco anticipates more than 30,000 visitors for Memorial Day weekend

Occupancy levels at Puerto Peñasco hotels and condominiums are expected to top 90% during the upcoming U.S. Memorial Day weekend.  This solidifies the holiday weekend as one with the largest tourist influx of the year, marking the “unofficial” kick-off to the U.S. summer vacation season. Several bars, restaurants, and condo resorts are planning special bands or events over the holiday weekend.

According to Héctor Vázquez del Mercado, President of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV), more than 30,000 people from Arizona and southern California, among other spots across the southwestern US, are expected to hit Peñasco’s shores this Memorial Day, making this “one of the busiest vacation weekends of the year.”

Strengthened tourist numbers over Memorial Day have been sustained over the past three years, the OCV President detailed, representing economic revenue for tourism and services along the lines of 35 million pesos.

In looking at the calendar, concluded Vázquez del Mercado, “Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest following Spring Break. Then come the weekends of “Circus Mexicus” and Labor Day to round out the summer.”
