Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) enters agreement with Airbnb to prevent tax evasion and increase promotional funds

OCV President Hector Vazquez del Mercado reported on an agreement made with Airbnb at the Spring Tourism Fair held in Mazatlán, Sinaloa that aims to allow for better rent control, prevent tax evasion, and increase tourism promotional resources. He noted, with guidance from state government, Airbnb will start charging the 2% hospitality tax, translating into positive changes for tourism destinations such as Puerto Peñasco.  He added presently at least 30% of informal rentals do not comply with this contribution, however the new agreement is expected to generate at least 1.2 million pesos to go toward tourism promotion.
