One of its central objectives is also to “recognize and spread the value of protected areas, priority regions, and at-risk species, in order to maintain and promote strategies among different sectors of society” (snc.conanp.gob.mx).

It is worth adding, the National Conservation Week coincides with the Schuk-Toak Visitors Center’s own 2nd anniversary, which will be held on Nov. 25.   To celebrate the anniversary the Shuk-Toak Visitors Center has been sponsoring an art contest for local artists, 16 and up, from Puerto Peñasco, Sonoyta, or San Luis Rio Colorado  For more information, contact: hector.pinacate@gmail.com   The entrance to the Visitors Center is located along Peñasco-Sonoyta highway No. 8 at km. 72, about 15 minutes outside of Peñasco as you head north. The well paved access road winds along the side of Sierra Blanca before reaching the building, built atop the Ives lava flow.   www.visitaelpinacate.com
