Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. March 20, 2016. In order to improve international connectivity while reviving municipal economic development, Mayor Kiko Munro announced commercial flights between Cd. Juárez and Puerto Peñasco will begin June 26th. The flights will initially operate weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.
He explained the new route, operated by the TAR airline (Transportes Aéreos Regionales) headquartered in Querétaro, was obtained through joint efforts of the State Government and Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR).
“Peñasco’s connectivity to the world, and reviving economic development, has been my priority since day one of our administration,” he emphasized, “now we will see these results, and negotiations are still underway with TAR for another flight to Hermosillo, and there are talks with Volaris.”
Mayor Munro added that with this achievement efforts are well underway to ensure Puerto Peñasco develops not solely as a real estate destination, but rather once find itself in the spotlight for both national and international tourism.
The agreement for the upcoming flight was reached during the visit of Municipal Economic Development Coordinator, Ruben Sánchez Lizárraga, to Mexico City where he met with Salvador Sánchez Estrada, Deputy Secretary of Planning and Tourism Policy, Roberto Cabral y Bowling, General Director of Planning, and Vanessa María Vázquez Meseguer, Consulting Coordinator of the Deputy Secretary of Planning and Tourism Policy, all from SECTUR.
Others involved in the talks included José Luis Rangel Esquivel, Executive Director of Offices from the Mexican Tourism Board, Alejandro Cobián Bustamante, General Director of the National Chamber of Aerotransport (CANERO) and Fernando Antillón Valenzuela, Director of the Aeropuerto Mar de Cortés.
