Accompanied by Women’s Institute Director María Dolores Monteverde, City Trustee Elizabeth Borboa Jiménez, and other city officials, Mayor Kiko Munro along with his wife Linda Pivac de Munro performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to inaugurate the new offices of the Municipal Women’s Institute.
“It is the time for women,” expressed the mayor, “which is why we are all called upon to be participants and provide spaces, as well as opportunities, so that women may fully develop.”
Mayor Munro made the commitment to have another area added to the new facility, to house talks, workshops and group sessions, in providing a dignified space where women can feel comfortable and safe.
Monteverde, Municipal Women’s Institute Director, explained during the first 5 months of the current administration, the Institute has provided 280 psychological sessions, 320 legal consultations, participated in 20 voluntary divorce trials, 50 good faith alimony agreements, and has provided attention and support in reducing educational deficiencies, along with workshops for parents, on preventing domestic abuse in relationships, and strengthening family values and self-esteem, among others.
Public Projects Coordinator Terencio Gutiérrez Valenzuela detailed work on the new facilities of the Municipal Women’s Institute involved an investment of 185,000 pesos to rehabilitate 100 sq. meters of construction, which now includes a reception area, two areas for legal counsel, one for field sessions, an administrative office and restrooms.
