Little David undergoes successful open heart surgery

By José Antonio Pérez

Following intense work by his family, and a series of intense steps aimed at never giving up, on Wednesday, July 12th, David Humberto Hernández Bojórquez, who has come to be known as “Little David” underwent open heart surgery in Cd. Obregón.  David’s mother, Elpidia Guadalupe Bojórquez Pérez, reported the surgery was a success and David was to then spend 48 hours in recovery in intensive therapy.

Little David, who has become quite a fixture locally and on social networks, was born with down syndrome and was initially given only 3 months to live. Now, at nearly 4 years old (3 years, 10 months), his family hopes both his life expectancy and quality of life will be improved following the recent four-hour surgery. Though the lesion on David’s heart was more serious than initially thought, the doctor’s prognosis was favorable.

Following several fundraising activities on behalf of Little David’s family to keep his Social Security insurance, along with seeking blood and platelet donors, the young warrior underwent surgery on July 12th after his initial June 7th surgery was delayed as the anesthesiologist was unavailable.

On July 16th, a request was spread on Facebook asking if anyone were traveling to Cd. Obregon to help by taking urgent medication to Little David’s mother Elpidia Bojórquez. If able to assist, please contact Elpidia (in Spanish) 638 112 5849. *You may contact Sami of RockyPoint360 (in English) 638 380 8849 to assist with translating message if necessary.
