Santiago Ruiz Hurtado, board president of the José Dávalos Valdivia Casa Hogar home for the elderly announced presentation of the 2020 Rodger Clifton Volunteer Award to six of the over 75 people who contributed time and presence to the home over the past year.

Ruiz detailed the awarded volunteers include Angel Gamboa, architect Adrian Bravo, Dr. Patricia Adriana Osuna, Mrs. María Dolores Dueñas Reynoso, and Gustavo Celaya.  He highlighted this type of recognition provides a much deserved and needed incentive for volunteerism.

Upon inviting everyone from the community, and visitors alike, to consider the year-round volunteer opportunities at Casa Hogar, Ruiz expressed his gratitude to the 2020 Volunteer Award recipients.

“Thank you for being volunteers,” he expressed, “Thank you for giving your time to help the elderly. These volunteers have demonstrated their passion towards this cause and definitely make a difference. For some, being a volunteer is only about giving, but for them it’s part of continuing with life.”

This is the fifth year for this award, named in honor of the late Puerto Peñasco resident Rodger Clifton, who, together with his wife Jeanette, was one of the main benefactors for the home for the elderly.

Santiago highlighted activities such as this complement the goal of attracting more people to offer their help to the “Home”, as their main objective in keeping the home’s doors open is to help make the residents’ experience a little different each day.

In December, Ruiz had reported the home for the elderly is currently at capacity with 21 residents, and with an extensive wait list.  As it is not possible to receive more residents at the home, the board’s “Francisco” program provides additional support to nine elderly people in their homes, including diapers, clothing, groceries, medicines, and breakfast 3 times a week.

The José Dávalos Valdivia “Casa Hogar” Home for the elderly is located at the corner of Blvd. Josefa Ortiz and Ave. Miguel Hidalgo.  In addition to volunteering, people can also donate goods directly to the home for either use by home residents as appropriate or sale at their “thrift” center. Donations received daily 9 am – 3 pm at the back entrance.
