Islas del Mar takes part in 2nd Sustainable Beaches Meeting

The second Sustainable Beaches virtual meeting, organized by the Institute of Standardization and Certificacion, A.C. (IMNC), took place Oct. 18th-22nd. The IMNC is the body responsible for certifying beaches that possess appropriate characteristics as clean and sustainable beaches, such as that of Islas del Mar.

The event, which included participation of authorities from SEMARNAP (Secretary of the Environment, Natural Resources, and Fishing), prestigious scholars, representatives from certified beaches, and IMNC staff, presented progress made in the areas of sustainability and clean-up on currently certified beaches.  A panel discussion addressed specific topics on beach sustainability while providing for a sharing of experiences.

Islas del Mar, as the longest expanse of certified clean recreational beach in the country, took part in the event and shared its experience as to the achievements and challenges that certified beaches face. This includes identifying the best way to reduce waste along the beach, and the importance of environmental education to accomplish this.
