Official Presentation of the Puerto Peñasco Tiburones of the Liga Norte de México
Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. April 5, 2017. Together with the Tiburones board, athletic authorities, businesses and sponsors, Mayor Kiko Munro took part in officially presenting the 2017 Puerto Peñasco Tiburones baseball team of the Liga Norte de Mexico. The mayor expressed pride in having kept his commitment for a competitive baseball team, along with dignified facilities for both the players and fans. He noted his administration has invested 35 million pesos into remodeling the Francisco León García Baseball Stadium, stressing the city has a great fan base but above all we are a great city and deserved a good team, with good facilities, and a better stadium.
The mayor invited the community to Opening Day on April 11th, detailing former professional baseball players who have elevated the name of Puerto Peñasco and played in the Mexican Pacific and Summer Leagues have been invited to throw out the first pitch.
Board President Terencio Gutiérrez Valenzuela detailed the 2017 Tiburones roster is made up of 30 professional players, two being from abroad. The technical crew consists of Raúl Cano, team manager, and Vicente “El Huevo” Romo, pitching coach, both of whom are experienced former pitchers and members of the Mexican Hall of Fame.
Gutiérrez, who also serves as Municipal Coordinator of Public Projects, furthered reconstruction on the stadium included installation of synthetic grass, an electronic scoreboard, a new lighting system, bathrooms, new concrete bleachers, as well as seating for 1850 fans.
