Important road & safety tips for the Rally

091-620x413 Important road & safety tips for the RallyWith the Rally weekend right around the corner, here are some important tips to help ensure everyone’s safety over the coming days. Be safe! Have fun!  The 11th Rocky Point Rally will be this weekend Nov. 10 – 13!

Road into the Old Port & Malecón
The Saturday Fiesta in the Malecón area has quickly become one of the highlights of the Rocky Point Rally, and this year will surely not be an exception. There has been some serious roadwork going on in this part of town for the past year or so, so be sure to watch for sandy spots. The main road by the boat launch area going into the Malecón, which is undergoing paving work, will be open only to bikers (both directions) going in and out of the Old Port. This bike circuit through the malecón will go through the popular fish market/sports bar/restaurant part of the port, rounding the corner by Viña del Mar hotel and have indications of areas for just bikes – or where cars may be allowed.   If you are driving over to the malecón (not on a bike) as a spectator, plan to park on Av. Alcantar or even somewhere before going into the Port and enjoy the stroll.

Calle 13 just for bikes Fri. & Sat.
Beginning around early afternoon on both Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11th & 12th, Calle 13 will be closed off to cars and trucks. Bike Only Area from about the railroad tracks near the intersection of Blvd. Juarez and Calle 13 and up to the corner of Plutarco Elías Calles (by Sushi Sun).

Emergency Services  *Emergency #066  [like 911 in the US]
Personnel from the local Fire Department and Red Cross will be stationed along Calle 13 and in the Malecón on Friday and Saturday.

Caution!
The wind has been blowing through Rocky Point recently, leaving behind traits of sand in all kinds of unwelcome spots…including curves and traffic circles. Be particularly careful around curves on the way to the Sandy Beach road, nearing the turn off  to Playa Bonita Hotel, as well as the traffic circle near Las Palomas. Other important spots for a little extra caution include the road to Cholla Bay and particularly the final curve as you near that part of town, as well as the traffic circle and turn-offs to the Coastal Highway and Mayan Palace along the Peñasco-Sonoyta highway. When not right in town, there is not much street lighting.

Saturday Rally Parade
This tradition is probably the Rally highlight for many in the local community who may not make their way to the malecón for weekend fiestas.  Bikes should start lining up starting at 3 p.m. along Blvd. Freemont in front of Winner’s Point (a.k.a. Black Dog next to Giuseppi’s and down the street from the Red Cross).  Bring candy to throw out to spectators along the route. Parade will start at 4 p.m. and everyone is asked to stick together –  no big gaps in the parade – for safety reasons, stoplights, police monitors, etc.

The parade will start at 4 p.m. in front of Winner’s Point, turning right at the stoplight onto Blvd. Juarez .and continue down Blvd. Juarez down near the baseball stadium at the entry to town. Just before the baseball stadium, the parade will turn right on Av. Lopez Mateo and down to Blvd. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez, where it will turn right again and continue to Av. Sonora. After turning right on Av. Sonora, the parade will continue straight, meeting up with Calle 13. On Calle 13, the parade will turn right at the Luis Encinas stoplight and continue to Av. No Reelección. At the stoplight on No Reelección, the parade will turn left and head for the development projects along Sandy Beach, wrapping up in Chango’s Bar near the entrance to the Sonoran Spa & Sonoran Sea Resorts.

Don’t forget to pick up your registration packet for $10 US donation, includes official rally pin. Funds to go to local charities across town. Registration @ Barclin’s Thursday and Friday, all day @ Malecon on Saturday, and at Playa Bonita.rally-route-620x509 Important road & safety tips for the Rally
