Highlighting the impact of Circus Mexicus on Puerto Peñasco

By José Antonio Pérez

Nearly 5,000 people took part in the 20th Anniversary celebration of Circus Mexicus just two weeks ago in Puerto Peñasco. The four-day music event spread across the beaches and bars of Puerto Peñasco from June 6th – 9th.

The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) highlighted the economic and tourism impact of the event, which has been promoted for two decades now by ambassadors and creators, the band of Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers from Arizona.

Dozens of groups spanning various genres of music, from alternative rock to country and Latin American rhythms moved the thousands in attendance over four days, with main venues along Sandy Beach as well as spots at sponsor bars.

This year’s Circus Mexicus marked 20 years of beachside RCPM concerts, which began with a handful of followers from Arizona and has now become a forum for groups and soloists, continually bringing together more musicians from the southwestern US and beyond and even more fans who enjoy the beach as well as activities such as the annual beach soccer tournament.

Along with all the music and fun, Circus Mexicus and all events held by Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, include activities to benefit the community. Proceeds from fundraisers over the years have gone to educational and recreational programs across the city, and particularly Esperanza para los Niños children’s home.
