Health Office to step up enforcement of health protocols

Given the possibility of Puerto Peñasco returning to red on the statewide Covid-19 risk map, the Municipal Health Office is reinforcing measures to ensure compliance with health protocols. This comes after complaints regarding some businesses not respecting mandatory health regulations, detailed current Municipal Health Coordinator Erick Francisco Gastélum Pacheco.

Gastélum, who stepped into the role as Municipal Health Coordinator after Dr. Oscar Castro resigned for personal reasons earlier this year, detailed his office would be visiting and doing inspections in the Old Port and Malecon Fundadores, restaurants, public offices, funeral homes, and other public access areas.

During these initial visits, they will be reminding and encouraging residents and tourists alike to use their face masks, maintain social distancing, and not gather in large crowds.  If businesses, visitors, and/or residents fail to heed these “invitations” to follow mandatory health guidelines, in coming weeks this could lead to fines and removal of individuals from public spaces.

For comments, complaints, or questions on appropriate use of masks, and other protocols, please contact the Municipal Health Office at 63 388 5152 or use 911 for emergencies.
