Halloween Treats for Red Cross raised by Playa de Oro RV Park

Playa de Oro residents and friends held a Halloween costume party on October 27th with a raffle of 17 donated prizes, raising $350 USD (4550 pesos) to benefit the Mexican Red Cross. The donation was made to C.P. Faustino Reyes B., Administrative Coordinator, by Linda Mottle, on behalf of the benefit attendees.  Almost 100 partygoers were creatively adorned in costumes ranging from male hula dancers and Caesar to Frida Kahlo and even Doc Holliday.

A panel of three artfully costumed judges picked the winning costumes based on creativity, originality, and audacity, and made sure everyone knew they could “be bribed”!  Participants promenaded down the gauntlet doing the “stroll” to impress the judges with many antics, character impersonations, and overtures towards the judges.   First prize then went to Laura Post, aka Groucho Marx, second prize to Cheryl and Mel Voelker as prisoner and Lt. Lockdown, third prize to Sharon and Bill Smith as pirate captain and first mate, and honorable mention went to Dea Pleasants as an adorable 1950’s diner car hop.  All enjoyed the pot luck dinner and desserts afterwards with lots of liquid refreshments.

Donations totaling $200 (US) were also raised toward the purchase of AED’s (Automatic External Defibrillators) for the RV park.  We want to thank the many volunteers and Playa De Oro staff for assisting with the many tasks and support that made the party such a success.
