January 19th was an important day for the Puerto Peñasco Fire Department, as a new board of directors was sworn in and the department welcomed the donation of three fire trucks and an ambulance made possible through the efforts of the local Rotary Club, as well as the Las Conchas Homeowners Association.
Thanks to the donation, the local fire department and the Civil Protection Unit (CPU) now has 16 emergency vehicles in its pool, with which they will be able to continue to provide valuable services. The Fire Department currently has three stations in town, and hopes to fully equip a fourth one on the east side of town in the future.
Shandra Keesecker, current president of the local Rotary Club “Club Rotario Mar de Peñasco, AC”, explained the donation of two fire trucks (a brush truck and 120’ ladder truck), as well as an ambulance was thanks to coordinated efforts with their sister club, Rotary Club of Surprise, AZ, and AMR in Arizona. The occasion provided the possibility for a further donation of a firetruck made possible by the Las Conchas Homeowners Association and the Care Convoy project.
Earlier in the day, the local fire department welcomed a new board of directors led by Jaime Rodriguez Gomez, who were sworn in by City Secretary Terencio Gutiérrez Valenzuela.
Dr. Francisco Javier Carrillo Ruiz, Head of the Civil Protection Unit and Fire Department, highlighted the importance of being able to count on a board of directors, as they will be a valuable asset for generating and managing resources for the proper functioning of this institution. He also qualified the donation of four emergency vehicles on one day as transcendental for the department.
In his address, Mayor Kiko Munro congratulated the new Fire Department board and thanked the Rotary Clubs of Surprise and Puerto Peñasco, along with the Las Conchas HOA, for their valuable donations to the safety and benefit of Puerto Peñasco.
