Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. March 3, 2017. The 2017 “Viva Peñasco” Carnaval officially began on Friday evening as thousands of people lined Blvd. Benito Juarez to enjoy the traditional Carnaval parade filled with floats, marching bands, drums, and dance groups.
“Ninety years after Puerto Peñasco was founded, we are reviving carnaval fiesta traditions as this forms part of our identity as a people,” expressed Mayor Kiko Munro, accompanied by his wife Linda Pivac de Munro, adding, “we want to encourage these roots, values, and this love for Peñasco, as we know it exists and we want it to thrive.”
On the first night of the three days marking Carnaval festivities, the mayor and his wife crowned the 2017 Carnaval Queen, Brislyn Rodríguez Preciado.
The 2017 “Viva Peñasco” Carnaval, to be held March 3rd – 5th in the area of the Mirador, included a teatro del pueblo, local artists, carnival rides, an American style rodeo, traditional treats, as well as 2 stages with performances by headliners Grupo Laberinto and La Concentración.
