FAOT 2017 music festival to showcase performances in Puerto Peñasco

The 33rd edition of the Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival (FAOT), whose home site is Alamos, Sonora, which has traditionally rendered tribute to opera and musical expression from across the globe, now extends its reach to Puerto Peñasco.  For a first time in the festival’s 33 years, Puerto Peñasco will be a subsite for the International Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival (FAOT), with local presentations from Jan. 23rd – 26th featuring opera, mariachi, and a country-pop group.

Municipal Director of Art and Culture, Nina Mier, explained bringing the most important festival in the state to Puerto Peñasco was made possible through coordination of the local administration and the Sonoran Cultural Institute (ISC), resulting in four evening performances for the entire family. isabel-lozano-faot-1200x809 FAOT 2017 music festival to showcase performances in Puerto Peñasco

The presentations will be held nightly at 8 p.m. at the Municipal Auditorium. On Monday, soprano Gisela Machado and tenor Oscar Roa will be accompanied by pianist Ilusión Hernández in Canciones del Mundo. On Tuesday, soprano Isabel Lozano will perform with Russian pianist Dmitri Dudin. On Wednesday, Jan. 25th the Mariachi de la Armada de Mexico will perform in the Auditorium, as will the country-pop group Los Hijos de Frank on Friday, Jan. 26th.

Though all presentations are free, people are encouraged to call and reserve seats for the Municipal Auditorium. Reservations may be made at the Puerto Peñasco Casa de Cultura (across from City Hall) Monday – Friday from 8 am- 3:30 pm. or by 383 3323.

The 33rd edition of the Alfonso Ortiz Tirado Festival also extended subsites of the international celebration to cities across Sonora as well as the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, Todos Santos in Baja California Sur, and Tucson, AZ.
