Environmental education at schools to highlight CEDO’s 40 years in the field

By José Antonio Pérez

The Executive Director of the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO), Nelida Barajas Acosta, detailed the launch of an Environmental Education program this year, which seeks to educate Puerto Peñasco students on progress made in sustainability during CEDO’s 40 years of work in the region. Together with area schools, CEDO will be visiting classrooms to plant the seeds for focusing on conserving the region’s ecosystems.

Nelida Barajas emphasized, much as CEDO has done over the past four decades, their goal is to work with the community and not against fishing in seeking to involve everyone in their numerous programs.

As part of CEDO’s 40th Anniversary, under the theme “40 years of Anchoring a Sustainable Future fir the Sea of Cortez”, the organization is taking part in international coastal clean-ups, the Science and Diplomacy Conference of the University of Arizona, as well as science fairs and film offerings in communities throughout the region. To cap off anniversary activities, CEDO will be presenting a March 14th concert “For the Love of the Sea” featuring Mexican folk artists Alejandro Filio and Fernando Delgadillo.   Tickets available at: Por Amor a la Mar
