A year after Rungvisai defeated Puerto Peñasco’s hometown boxing pride Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada by decision, to retain the World Super Flyweight championship, the two will meet again on April 26th in Los Angeles, California for their anticipated rematch.  (Editor’s note: The fight had first been announced for April 6th but then rescheduled)

The fight came about upon the request of Estrada, who remarks he has been training vigorously and is feeling confident about taking on his Thai opponent once more for the super flyweight belt, in a “clear” bout that will not leave the decision up to the judges.

“El Gallo” explained, “I feel well emotionally, and believe that with the training I am receiving there shouldn’t be any problem with the fight and we should win, though of course anything can happen. However, we are focused on not leaving it up to the judges’ decision, or rather beat him without any problems.”

“El Gallo” says he feels strong and focused on confronting Rungvisai, whose punching style he already knows which has bolstered his training strategy.

The upcoming bout, to be aired by DAZN, will be decisive for the Super Flyweight championship after the last controversial fight that saw Rungvisai beat Estrada by unanimous decision, scoring the close fight 114-114, 117-11, and 115-113.

After the defeat, Estrada asked for a rematch, but for various reasons this kept getting postponed. Now, finally, the Mexican fighter will have an opportunity to avenge his defeat to Rungvisai.

The main card on fight night also features TJ Doheny vs Daniel Roman for the Super Bantamweight title.
