Dédalo Artes Escénica presents “La Línea” as part of XX Kino Festival

This year, Puerto Peñasco served as subsite for the 20th Annual Kino Festival, activities of which included a Book Mobile (LibroBus) at area schools to encourage reading, as well as a contemporary dance performance on Friday, May 19th.

Applauded by the community as a completely innovative experience, the Friday evening performance entitled “La Línea” explored the estimated 3,185 kilometer line dividing the U.S. from Mexico, cutting across deserts and rushing waters, and inhabited by border patrol (la migra), traffickers, hunters, and migrants.

Choreographed by Manuel Ballesteros, with live music performed by Nortec Paoptica Orchestra and visuals by Gerardo Audiffred, the Dédalo Artes Escénicas dance group brought La Línea – its heat, hell, and necessity – to life across the stage of the Municipal Auditorium.

The Kino Festival, now in it’s 20th year, was held May 17th – 21st in 18 municipalities across Sonora, as well as in Tumacácori, AZ, in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the discovery of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino’s remains.  The Festival itself included more than 100 activities featuring film, conferences, workshops, local artists, dance and theater performances, painting, gastronomy, and more in the selected sites.
