Oct. 23. With the objective of enhancing Mexican traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead, the XXI City Government of Puerto Peñasco, through its office on Civil and Cultural Affairs (ACC) has organized an Altar and Literary Calaveras contest. (Calaveras Literarias are meant to be humoristic, satirical epitaphs).
Jesús Romero Chagoyan, Director of Civic and Cultural Affairs, expressed they are looking to involve the entire community in this celebration in remembering those who have passed. Therefore, the contest will be open to anyone wishing to participate. Romero explained registration will take place from Oct. 23 – 31 at the ACC offices. Recognition will be awarded to the first three places and the three best altars will also receive an economic prize. During a press conference, the ACC Director remarked they have received a positive response from the student community who have come to ask for more information. With this in mind, they plan to continue a campaign to get the word out at various educational institutions. He added they will have the special participation of the DIF and the Municipal Youth Institute (IMJ), each of whom will have their respective altars in rescuing this Mexican tradition.
On Nov. 2nd, activities will begin at noon (12 p.m.) with the participation of the “Primera Toma” Cine Club (First Take Film Club) with films allusive to the celebrations; the films will be presented at the Municipal Auditorium (in front of City Hall on Blvd. Juarez). In addition to the setting up of the altars, there will be live music from local artists, including the Trío Zafiro and Ricardo Rivera, all leading up to the awards ceremony.
Finally, Romero Chagoyan added something new will be a procession beginning at 5:30 p.m., departing from Casa Juárez (next to the Municipal Auditorium) and making its way to the Fishermen’s unloading area (La Bajada at entrance to Old Port). There, small offerings will be set out to sea made up of candles and environmentally safe materials in honor of the deceased.

Lanzan convocatoria para concurso de altares y calaveras
PUERTO PEÑASCO, 23 OCT;.- Con el objetivo de dar realce a las tradiciones mexicanas del Día de Muertos , el XXI Ayuntamiento de Puerto Peñasco a través de Acción Cívica y Cultural (ACC) organiza el Concurso de Altares y Calaveras Literarias.
El director de Acción Cívica, Jesús Romero Chagoyan, resaltó que buscan involucrar a toda la comunidad en esta celebración para recordar a los fieles difuntos, motivo por el cual la convocatoria será abierta para todos aquellos que quieran participar.
Precisó que las inscripciones se llevarán a cabo del 23 al 31 de octubre en las instalaciones de la propia dependencia municipal. Los ganadores de los tres primeros lugares obtendrán reconocimientos especiales y los 3 mejores altares recibirán un estímulo económico.
En conferencia de prensa, manifestó que han tenido buena respuesta por parte de la comunidad estudiantil quienes se han acercado a solicitar información, por lo que continuarán con la campaña de difusión mediante visitas a las diferentes instituciones educativas.
Agregó que contarán con la participación especial de DIF y el Instituto Municipal de la Juventud (IMJ) quienes colocarán sus respectivos altares como parte del rescate de esta tradición mexicana.
Las actividades iniciarán el 2 de noviembre a las 12:00 p.m. con la participación de Cine Club “Primera Toma” a través de la proyección de películas alusivas a la fecha mismas que se presentarán en el Auditorio Municipal.
Además de la instalación de altares se contará con música en vivo de artistas de la localidad, como el Trío Zafiro y Ricardo Rivera, para posteriormente culminar con la premiación.
Por último, Romero Chagoyan, agregó que como una innovación se realizará una procesión a las 5:30 de la tarde que partirá desde la Casa Juárez hacia la Bajada de los pescadores, donde se lanzarán ofrendas al mar elaboradas con velas y material ecológico para honrar a los fieles difuntos.
