Puerto Peñasco mayor Ernesto “Kiko” Munro reported following a request of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the city is in the process of donating land for construction of a new IMSS General Hospital. City Council is evaluating the feasibility of two possible sites for the new hospital, which would be built between 2021 and 2023.
The new hospital will require 2 hectares of land and facilities are to include 50 patient beds, along with 2 operating rooms, among other elements. This will replace the present IMSS facility in the center of town, which holds only 12 beds, expanding healthcare services to the over 36,000 IMSS patients between Puerto Peñasco and Sonoyta.
