City continues investment in comprehensive rehabilitation of water lines

Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. August 23, 2016.  Water pressure and overall water supply will continue to improve significantly in coming days following installation of a new engine and pumping equipment to city well No. 1, reports Water Department (OOMAPAS) Administrative Director Jorge Pivac Carrillo.

Pivac Carrillo detailed work would take two days to complete, therefore by Wednesday, Aug. 24th, there would be an increase of 100 liters of water per second in the network.

“In less than a month we have rehabilitated and reincorporated wells 11 and 2 into the network,” he detailed, “which have been equipped with new engines and pumping equipment acquired through OOMAPAS funds as well as efforts of the Mayor with the National Water Commission (CONAGUA).”

In addition to use of OOMAPAS funds to fix wells 3 and 5, work remains to completely rehabilitate two of five wells that will help to once and for all resolve the historic problem of water supply to the city.

Further steps have included installation of a pumping station in the Ferrocarrilera neighborhood, as well as expansion of the network in the Obrera, López Portillo, Brisas del Golfo, San Rafael, and Nuevo Peñasco neighborhoods. In addition, hydraulic infrastructure projects have included the first phase of construction in the practically new 4 de marzo neighborhood in the western part of the city, which had lacked basic services.

The OOMAPAS Administrative Director emphasized the new hydraulic infrastructure has been made possible through the Mayor’s efforts to acquire 18 million pesos from CONAGUA.
