Chef Mickey’s Cooking Classes to resume Jan. 21

Not being what you would call an expert in the kichen myself, though I can make a mean guacamole with my husband’s recipe, I was pleased to learn that Chef Mickey will be starting up his Saturday Cooking Classes again on Jan. 21.  For those who have followed Mickey around town over the past few years,  he is now back in his familiar spot on Blvd. Fremont at Plaza del Sol. The classes, which are $20 US per person and allow for a maximum of 15 participants, are on Saturdays from  9 a.m. – 10 a.m. and everyone gets to learn Mickey’s chef tips and then taste the wonderful results. Plus, speak with Mickey about his once a month “shopping trip tour” around the city and discover where you can find the best ingredients as you go from shop to shop.

Chef Mickey’s place is located toward the back of Plaza del Sol on Blvd. Freemont (Acqua Spa is in the front part of plaza) and is open every day except Tuesdays (for the moment) from about 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.  The cozy spot promises to continue to be a great contribution to fine dining options at accessible prices in town. Don’t forget, Chef Mickey was Rocky Point Iron Chef winner in 2009 and plans to compete again this year on Feb. 11 during the Taste of Penasco/Iron Chef event @ Plaza del Camaron.

Mickey’s Saturday Cooking Classes are $20 US / max 15 people (Instruction in Spanish & English as needed). Get your reservations and “class fee” to Mickey by the Friday before the class.  Private classes also available for groups of 8 or more (at the restaurant).  Information: 388-9500 or cell: 638 386-4736   chefmickeyone@hotmail.com
