The Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) has announced Puerto Peñasco will host the 2022 Regional Fisheries & Aquaculture Festival, June 7th-9th. The Festival, which will be open to the general public and held at the Peñasco Expo Convention Center, aims to promote and assist the regional fishing sector through just commerce, social responsibility, and sustainability.
CEDO stresses the northern Gulf of California is one of the world’s most productive fishing regions due to the complex interaction of oceanographic, physiographic, and biologic processes. Fishing sustains nearly 5000 fishermen in the region, who operate 2000 smaller and 140 larger boats.
CEDO highlights, “2022 has been recognized by the United Nations Assembly as the International Year of Artisanal Fishing and Aquaculture (#IYAFA2022). This initiative seeks to focus attention and acknowledge the work of millions of fishermen and women, aquaculture, and those in the fishing industry for their contribution in providing healthy food for millions of people across the globe.”
