Altars are usually set up in remembrance of a loved one, a friend, or even a passed celebrity, and contest guidelines include specific rules, such as: the use of traditional, and or regional elements, and ensuring the altar must be to the “liking” of the deceased who is being honored.  One again, a panel of judges will select the winning altars, who will also receive cash prizes (15,000 pesos to first place, 10,000 pesos to second, and 5,000 pesos to third).
