Casa Hogar invites joy for holiday season

By José Antonio Perez

The doors of the José Dávalos Valdivia Home for the Elderly “Casa Hogar” are open year round to visitors from the community of Puerto Peñasco and beyond, looking to bring joy to the “abuelos” residing there, expressed Casa Hogar Board President Santiago Ruiz Hurtado.

Ruiz noted during the holiday season the home always prepares its own posada (holiday party), and as in other years other organizations and parts of the community plan visits over the holidays, often sponsoring a holiday meal and festivities.

The idea of welcoming visitors to Casa Hogar is to help make each day different for the abuelos, particularly over the holidays and with the arrival of the New Year.

There are currently 26 residents at the non-profit Casa Hogar, noted the Board President. The home itself has been at capacity for the past three months, which is one reason the Board has taken additional steps to provide attention to as many abuelos as possible in Puerto Peñasco – even beyond the home, such as through their “Francisco” meals program (which has received tremendous support from local American Legion MX Post 15).
