Call for Carnaval floats & groups!

The City of Puerto Peñasco, via the Carnaval Viva Peñasco – Fiesta y Cultura 2020 organizing Committee, is receiving entries for this year’s Carnaval to be held Feb. 28th – March 1st.  Organizations, public and private groups, along with cultural and educational institutions, and the community in general is invited to participate:

Group & Float entries:

1 – Registration open through Feb. 21st at 7 p.m.

2 – Register at the Office of Art & Culture / Municipal Public Library located next to the Municipal Auditorium (and across from City Hall)  tel: 638 383 3323, 638 388 6375   email: betysalido@hotmail.com or on Facebook via Private Message to Casa de la Cultura de Puerto Peñasco

3 – Registration is fee – Open Category for all participants. Registration must include:

  1. Name of group or float (marching band, etc.)
  2. For groups: Number of participants (minimum 20)
  3. Name, address, and telephone of group representative
  4. For floats: General information about the float

4 – No registrations accepted after Feb. 21st 7 p.m.

Point considerations:

For groups:  originality, interaction, coordination, projections, choreography complexity, open theme

For floats:  design originality, artistic elements, music and accessories, fanfare, colorfulness

5 – Requirements:

For groups:  must be allusive to official Viva Peñasco Carnaval theme, deliver music via file or CD on Feb. 21st at a general meeting. Group must be dressed in uniformity and according to the themes. Groups can be sponsored by public or private institutions, though not allusive to a political party

For floats:  Pick-ups or trucks with trailers to be used for floats; trailers may not be more than 11 meters long  (36 feet); maximum height for floats cannot surpass 4 meters (13 feet); must have flag identifying float and be duly registered. Use of propaganda allusive to political parties is prohibited (sponsor logos can be included).

  • Participate in parade on specified dates, in the designated space and time. Use of fireworks must be supervised by Civil Protection. Music must be allusive to the event.

6 – Contest – contest will be held during the visits of the Organizing Committee and during the “Duelo de Comparsas” (Group Duel).  The Group Duel will be held on Sunday, March 1st after the parade.

7 – Prizes to be officially presented at closing ceremony on Sunday, March 1, 2020

For groups:  1st place  $7000 pesos /  2nd place  $4000 pesos / 3rd place  $2000 pesos

For floats: 1st place $10,000 pesos /  2nd place $7000 pesos / 3rd place $5000 pesos

8 – Prior meeting  to be held Thursday, Feb. 20th 7 p.m. at the Municipal Public Library, coordinators and/or those responsible for the group/float must attend, parade placement to be designated at meeting

9 – Jury:  Judging Committee will be designated by the Organizing Committee and made up by persons knowledgeable in the field, judges’ ruling will be final
