Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. May 17, 2016. In encouraging the comprehensive development of Puerto Peñasco’s children and youth, Mayor Kiko Munro launched a municipal program entitled “My School Plays Baseball” on February 24th, which will wrap up May 23rd.
The athletic program has visited and interacted with over 4500 students at elementary and secondary schools across the city. The goal of the program is to complement students’ growth by encouraging them to pursue healthy and productive activities through sports.
Henry Lizardo de la Cruz, in charge of municipal Baseball Little Leagues, emphasized taking the program to various schools has been possible thanks to the acceptance, enthusiasm, and willingness of directors, teachers, and the students themselves.
He furthered they are already working on two additional efforts to help provide continuity to the program, with the first of these being a Summer Camp to reinforce skills. Following the camp, which would start in July, they are designing a Municipal After School League to start in September that would be open to elementary and secondary students.
