Back to School means much more for group of CETMAR students

Sponsorship by group of U.S. individuals helps DIF provide support to CETMAR students

August 18th is Back to School time in town!

Puerto Peñasco First Lady Rafaela Félix de Figueroa, who is also President of the local Office on Integral Family Development (DIF), recently presented a group of eight lower-income students at CETMAR with economic support to help them in furthering their studies.

This sponsorship, made possible by a group of U.S. individuals residing both in Puerto Peñasco and abroad, under the guidance of Mark and Barbara Olszewski, will allow the students to pay registration costs as well as purchase uniforms.

Students benefitting from the assistance include: Luis Ramón Morales Gocobachi, Vanesa Varela Hernández, Rodolfo Nieto, Cristian Florencio Varela Hernández, Perla Mariela Amarillas Ochoa, Yulisa García Meraz, Alexis José Carlos Meza and Melani Andrea Meza Barragán.

Mrs. Félix de Figueroa expressed this resource will be of great use for the young students, as they’ll be able to pay registration costs and others will be able to acquire uniforms.

“This is about low income families and we need to help them so they can continue with their studies, as only through ongoing preparation will they be able to progress. The commitment these young people are taking on is that of getting good grades in order to continue receiving assistance,” she stated.

While there are organizations that provide scholarships to students at various levels, it is important for businesses across the community to also join in this effort to support young students who encounter economic challenges in pursuing their studies.

Accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Enedina Gocobachi, Luis Ramón expressed thanks to the DIF President and the various sponsors who have contributed to make it possible for this group of CETMAR students to continue preparing themselves for the challenges of the future.

Barb and Mark Olszewski are active members of the Puerto Peñasco community. Their incredibly selfless efforts have included hands-on work in creating Adopt-A-Classroom, work with Los Rolling Rockies as well as the new Titans athletic programs for people with disabilities, directing volunteers to Amores de Peñasco Children’s Crisis Shelter, and active work with the Esperanza para Nueva Vida community center, among many other activities.
