On the morning of May 3rd, members from local media attended a press conference for the announcement of the VII Fest of Hispanic American Film and Independent Documentary Video, “All voices Against the Silence,” which will be shown in Puerto Peñasco from May 7th – 13th.
The fest is organized locally by the City of Puerto Peñasco, the Superior Technological Institute of Puerto Peñasco (ITSPP), the Schuk Toak Visitors Center at the Pinacate Biosphere Reserve, and the film club Primera Toma, A.C. The films will be shown at different sites across town, including the ITSPP, the Schuk Toak Visitors Center, and the Media Hall of the Civil Protection office (Fire Department).
Within Sonora there are only two places where the Fest is to be shown, in Hermosillo and now here in Puerto Peñasco. Puerto Peñasco is actually the site with the largest amount of documentaries to be shown throughout the entire northwest, with 56 films.
The themes of the documentaries vary according to category, which include Women, Indigenous Peoples, Human Rights, Social Movements and Organization, Citizens, Children & Youth, and the Elderly, among others.
Cristian Calónico, founder and director of “All Voices Against the Silence, A.C.” contacted the local Primera Toma (First Take) film club due to the promotional work being done here in Puerto Peñasco, and he proposed that the city be an official site for the Fest, to which they readily agreed.
“This is very important for us as the northwestern zone has been relegated from cultural [activities]. It is almost always Hermosillo, Obregón, and Nogales, but we are bringing Puerto Peñasco into the folds. Here there is tremendous art and many artists, in even a larger quantity than in other parts of the state,” remarked Nina Mier, who is an active promoter of cultural events throughout Puerto Peñasco.

It is important to note that most of the films are in Spanish, will only be shown once and will be shown whether there is one person or a hundred. There is no cost for the Fest so that it can be enjoyed by as many people as time will allow.
Yet, what is “All Voices Against Silence”?
It is a non-profit civil association whose mission is to produce, promote and disseminate Hispanic American documentaries with social themes. The “All Voices Against the Silence” Film Fest has taken place every two years since 2000. The goal of the festival is to disseminate the work of participating documentarians, as well as provide economic support through prizes to the best projects from the fest, as well as academic activities that allow for meeting, reflection, and exchange of ideas among different people involved.

“Contra el Silencio todas las Voces” VII Encuentro Hispanoamericano de cine y vídeo documental independiente
Este jueves 3 de mayo a las 11 de la mañana se convocó a los medios de comunicación a una rueda de prensa para anunciar la Muestra del VII Encuentro Hispanoamericano de Cine y Video Documental Independiente, “Contra el silencio todas las voces” el cual comenzará el 7 de mayo para terminar el 13 del mismo mes.
Esta muestra está organizada por el XX Ayuntamiento de Puerto Peñasco, Instituto Tecnológico Superior de Puerto Peñasco, Centro de Visitantes Schuk Toak y Cine Club Primera Toma, A.C. Que serán las diferentes cedes para la proyección del los documentales.
Sonora solo tiene dos ubicaciones donde llega la muestra , Hermosillo y, ahora, Puerto Peñasco, a saber que Puerto Peñasco es la sede con más documentales en proyección de toda la zona del noroeste, con 56 filmes.
La temática de los documentales varían según la categoría, que puede ser Mujeres, Indígenas, Derechos Humanos, Movimientos Sociales y Organización Ciudadana, infancia Juventud y Tercera Edad entre otros.
Cristian Calónico, fundador y director de “Contra el silencio todas las voces. A.C” se puso en contacto con Primera Toma a raíz de la labor de promoción y realización que están haciendo aquí en Puerto Peñasco y les propuso ser una sede oficial de este encuentro, a lo cual accedieron, con obvios resultados.
“Esto es muy importante para nosotros pues la zona del noroeste ha sido relegada de lo cultural. Casi siempre es Hermosillo, Obregón y Nogales, pero estamos haciendo que Puerto Peñasco esté a la altura, Aquí hay mucho arte y mucho artista, incluso en mayor cantidad que en otros lugares del estado” Comentó Nina Mier orgullosa a todos los presentes. Y no es para menos.

La Muestra no tiene costo alguno, para que así puedan disfrutar de tantos como quieran y el tiempo les permita.
Pero ¿Qué es “Contra el Silencio todas las voces”?
Es una asociación civil sin fines de lucro cuya misión es producir, promover y difundir el documental hispanoamericano de temática social.
A partir del año 2000 se organiza cada dos años, este encuentro Hispanoamericano de cine y vídeo de documental independiente Contra el silencio todas las voces; festival que tiene por política difundir el trabajo de los realizadores participantes así como el apoyo económico a través de premios a las mejores obras de la muestra, y la realización de actividades académicas que permitan el encuentro, la reflexión y el intercambio de ideas entre las diferentes personas involucradas.
