5 de mayo Weekend Rundown

May is full of holidays and fiestas in Mexico! We started off the month with Labor Day, then there was 3 de mayo honoring builders, and this weekend there’s 5 de mayo to commemorate the Battle of Puebla. Right around the bend is 10 de mayo (Mother’s Day in Mexico and throughout Latin America) or the 13th in the US, and there are also days this month set aside to celebrate teachers, students, freedom of the press, biodiversity, and of course the highly anticipated US Memorial Day weekend.

This morning, 4 x 4s are gathering out at by Lomas Campestre to hit the road for the biannual El Golfo Run, organized by our amigos from the Rocky Point Times.  Our own little VW Thing is not quite up for the adventure this Spring, but maybe come the Fall (next El Golfo Run around Oct. 26).

Out at JJ’s in Cholla Bay there is a Garage Sale on Saturday, with proceeds going to the Santa Claus Club. Stay out for a whole day in Cholla Bay on 5 de mayo and get in on the chili cook-off too.  Back in town, in the Mirador area, there should be a howling good time at the Paradise Beach Club at the Yappy Doggy Fashion Show, Fundraiser for the Rocky Point Animal Adoption Center.  Saturday night, catch the Mayweather vs. Cotto boxing match at many local hotspots, including the Convention Center out at Las Palomas (with prizes and raffles going on between each round).

contra-el-silencio2 5 de mayo Weekend Rundown

We are excited for this upcoming week with the VII Film Fest of Hispanic American Documentaries and Videos “All Voices Against the Silence”, which will be showing at the Schuk Toak Visitors Center, the Superior Technological Institute of Puerto Peñasco, and the smaller venue in the audio-visual hall of the local Fire Department and office of Civil Protection.  Functions are free, we think mostly in Spanish, and will be running all week from the 7th through the 13th!

A quick look at next week and the rest of the month: Mark Mulligan (brought to us by SeaSide Reservations) will be at Princesa next Friday for a 1 night function, a pre-Mother’s day outing to Bird Island, another round of the Fishing Derby in Cholla Bay, and then the 2nd Uniting Nations Cup will be teeing off out at Mayan Palace (5/17-5/20), and come Memorial Day weekend there’s the 2012 Peñasco Business Expo, a Bike Rally by the Rocky Point Riders, and of course more fishing! Plus, coming in June is Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers Circus Mexicus XXI  (6/8 – 6/10) out at Wrecked! *Remember to LIKE our page Rocky Point 360 on Facebook for a chance to win tickets – drawing on May 14th*
