3rd Annual Toma Color Run set for April 24th!

For a third consecutive year, people are invited to register for the 5K and 10K Toma Color fun run, to take place this year on Sunday, April 24th.

The Toma Color organizing committee, made up of young business professionals, held a press conference this past week to explain details of this year’s event, which aims to attract more than 1000 participants.

Toma-Color-II-94-630x473 3rd Annual Toma Color Run set for April 24th!Marisa Hernández of the organizing committee indicated funds from this year’s race, which are collected from participant registrations, will go toward supporting projects aimed at education, nutrition, health, and the environment. These grants will range from 20,000 to 100,000 pesos. So, in addition to opening up registration for the event, organizers are calling on those who may be interested in these grants – whether as individuals or organizations – to present their proposals.

Registration for the Toma Color fun run began on Wednesday, March 9th. Now through April 9th the cost is 250 pesos / person (about $15 US) or 200 pesos / person (about $12 US) when signing up with a group. Registration after April 10th will be 300 pesos (individual – approx. $18 US) or 250 pesos / person in a group (about $15 US).  Additional information and registration is available at the Puerto Viejo Café coffee shop in the Old Port (across from Thrifty).

These sponsorships make it possible for all other funds from registration fees get to charitable organizations.

Children, youth, adults, families, and friends, residents and visitors are all invited to join in the race, which is filled with color and fun and of course goes to help support community projects.

Toma-Color-II-76-630x473 3rd Annual Toma Color Run set for April 24th!Those on the organizing committee include: Alvita Portugal, Marisela Hernández, Mariela Contreras, Leticia Portugal, and Luis Altamirano. The panel that will be judging service projects that request grants is made up of Daniel Almada from the local Architectural Association, businessman Alberto Ter-Veen, Paloma Valdivia from CEDO, Jorge Valdes as legal and accounting counsel, and Liz Ibarra from the local Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV).

Final route details for this year’s Toma Color Run are still to be defined, though expectations are to have the same route as last year with the finish line in the Malecón.
