Members from the Playa Bonita RV Park are organizing a 24 Hour Cancer Relay for Life, scheduled for this Sat. & Sun. 4/21 – 4/22, in memory of Jaime Bejarano, Sr. who lost his battle with lung cancer on Friday, April 6 at the young age of 60. Jaime had worked at Playa Bonita for years and many long-term residents and visitors knew him, so a number of folks wanted to do something to help raise funds for his family who survives him.
Marilyn and Dave Knox, who reside at Playa Bonita RV and are helping with organizing, tell us the “24 Hour Cancer Relay for Life in Memory of Jaime, Sr.” will begin this Saturday, April 21 at Noon. They hope people will join to walk at least one 30 minute lap around the 1/2 mile track at Playa Bonita RV. The first 1/2 hour lap is dedicated to “SURVIVORS” so anyone who has “beat the beast” is encouraged to start off at NOON. At 12:30 they welcome anyone who wishes to walk. There is a sign up board at space C7 so come sign up for a 1/2 hour time slot if you are now in the park, or in Puerto Peñasco in general.
In addition, there will be a sign in at the Read Room on Saturday and if you wish to arrange for a luminaria you can do so then. The luminaria (paper bag filled with sand with a candle in it) will have your loved one’s name on it. These bags will be placed around the inner circle of the park and lit during a “Lighting Ceremony” that will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Read Room. Rosalie Saiz will be leading the ceremony and Jaime’s family will be present. All monies collected from the luminarias ($5 US each) will go directly to the family of Jaime Bejarano, Sr.
There will also be art vendors set up, with donations going to the ongoing fundraising efforts. Anyone who would like to sell items on Saturday or Sunday are also welcome, table fee is $10 US and will go to Jaime’s family. (Please contact Marilyn dmknox32@yahoo.com for info and sign-up)
