2020 “Fish Bowl” surpassed expectations

By José Antonio Pérez

The third annual “Fish Bowl” Seafood Festival of the local “Mar de Peñasco” Rotary Club in conjunction with the Mermaids Market, held Feb. 1st at Shrimp Park, exceeded expectations with an increase of 10 to 15% in proceeds to go toward projects to benefit the community via Rotary.

Shandra Keesecker, Rotary member and part of the “Fish Bowl” organizing committee, estimated attendance throughout the day surpassed 700 people, all of whom were able to enjoy culinary and artistic samplings from over 20 restaurants, 30 artisans, artistic presentations, and other community services.

Among all who came out to this year’s Fish Bowl, Keesecker highlighted the presence of what is known as “snowbirds”, or rather tourists that visit and stay in Puerto Peñasco during the winter months, as well as a strong showing of locals, both American and Mexican, and Rotary Club members from Caborca, San Luis Rio Colorado, Phoenix, and even Utah.

This year’s “Fish Bowl” event raised nearly 75 thousand pesos for local Rotary projects (approximately $4000 USD).  These funds will allow for the continuation of a project to provide purified water to all Puerto Peñasco schools, a project that started in September of last year.
