Autumn begins this weekend, and the weather is just about perfect in Rocky Point! Shrimp boats have headed back out to sea for the season, a new mayor is in office, and part of the “new” bridge in Sonoyta is open to traffic! Was it only last week people were going to and fro over alternate routes as raging waters ran over the Sonoyta Rapids detour? Welcome back! Local roads: Watch for baches (potholes) around town and unexpected topes (speedbumps).
With the bridge in Sonoyta back open for traffic, not to mention a recent dry-spell at the detour/wash, roads should be just about right for those coming in this weekend for the Cholla 250 Desert Race 9/21 – 9/22. On Saturday, 9/22, a fundraiser breakfast buffet for the local San Peregrino Cancer Awareness and Support group will be held at Las Palomas Convention Center from 8 am – 12 p.m. Tickets are $120 pesos (about $10 US)/person – all are welcome.
Sunday, 9/23 the Pelicanos Cycling club will be celebrating its 4th anniversary with a 50 km (men’s), and 30 km (women’s) bike event – starting and ending at the Circle K / Pemex on highway toward Sonoyta (by the former Desert Oasis hotel).
Additional adventure opportunities may include NaturArte tours with CEDO, Stand-Up-Paddelboards (SUP) near Playa Bonita, or a host of activities available on the beach near Las Palomas at EcoFun’s new palapa stop!
