Weekend Rundown 9/28 – 9/30

Happy World Tourism Day Sept. 27th! Come on down and “turistear”!

At the beginning of the week, many curious eyes looked out into the Pacific Ocean and wondered about Miriam, or rather the Hurricane, now Tropical Depression, Miriam. While at one point we could have had partly cloudy skies in Rocky Point over the weekend, with a 20% chance of precipitation, this has turned to a forecast of clear, clear, clear, and clear as we round out September and head into October! (www.wunderground.com)  Plus, the bridge in Sonoyta has 2 lanes open to traffic!

We are glad to see the opening of a number of new spots, including Mexico Beach Bum in the Malecón (formerly Lapa Lapa and l’il Wrecked) and a new Wrecked across from Peñasco del Sol (formerly Sunset Cantina). Plus, many local restaurants that had been closed for the summer will be opening their doors come Oct. 1st and we can’t wait!! Did you hear that Regina’s Restaurant is also having a re-opening, in a new spot over on Blvd. Josefa Ortiz (look for the large palapa near Newland school). We have a confession to make at RockyPoint360, and that is we haven’t been able to keep up with all the restaurant news in town so we are currently working to update our Drink & Dine info – suggestions and recommendations welcome!

2012-Cholla-Bay-1-Club-Open-34-620x413 Weekend Rundown 9/28 - 9/30Looking at some of the activities for this weekend:

This weekend – Music! Dance! This week’s top choice Salsa dancing with Agua de Coco on Saturdays at Caribbean Bay in the Malecon. (Sorry, we have been informed Salsa days at Elixir on Fridays are no longer [at least for now]).  Look for RiBand as well at The Lighthouse on both Friday and Saturday nights, or head up the stairs to La Cava (just above The Lighthouse) and enjoy both the views and melodies.

This Saturday, 6:30 a.m. – yeah, I said it…6:30 on a Saturday morning…. Head out to JJ’s Cantina and their biannual 1 Club Open through the 18 hole sea bottom course winding around the bay. 1 Club connoisseurs tell us to plan for 4 hours of fun – and the weather should be perfect! Registration $10 US at JJ’s (balls, tees, course map, and club included…if you take your own club, expect scuffling – though, as JJ’s reminds us, “No Sniveling”)

Rocky-Point-Bully-pitdeporte-401x620 Weekend Rundown 9/28 - 9/30Also on Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. the Bully & PitDeporte Tuning Car Show over by Peñasco del Sol will combine the muscular athletic frames of bully dogs and pitbulls along with the polish, art, and energy of lowriders and tuning cars. With judges and competitors coming in from different parts of the U.S. Southwest, and Mexico’s Northwest, as well as Hawaii, it promises to be a quite a show.  Spectators : 40 pesos /person  and 20 pesos for children up to 8.

Looking for our Weekly Activities? You may have noticed we took these off our Upcoming Events calendar, and moved them over to their own page – so, be sure to check that out for weekly darts, horse shoes, and times for Natural History talks at CEDO, etc.  Plus, tell us about your weekly event so we can add it to the list for the community!
