It is not every day we see waves crashing onto beaches hugging the shores of Puerto Peñasco. This is one of those days. Actually, May has made its presence felt with a number of such blustery moments. Maybe it’s because the wind generator is now on -ha! Rather than kayaks and jet-skis this weekend, you may catch a glimpse of a kite-surfer or two out there. Yet, those who offer spectacular sunset trips remark Saturday and Sunday trips should get the green light. Let’s get to it and run down the weekend and take a look at what’s coming up in Rocky Point!
Getting to and around town
– One lane on Blvd. Juarez when coming into town is OPEN. Remain alert at stop light as traffic is now more active at that intersection (linking Blvd. Juarez to Blvd. Josefa Ortiz and Blvd. Samuel Ocaña).
– IMPORTANT! Road work in front of City Hall is moving along quickly, though remain alert to detours in area. When heading to Old Port, access is available on Calle Luis Encinas (in front of movie theater – links up with Calle 13) and to get to Blvd. Fremont the detour takes vehicles on the dirt road behind Bancomer and the East side of Shrimp Plaza (spilling out near the Fire Department).

This Saturday, May 16th, when the tides are way out in Cholla Bay, plan to hit the flats for JJ’s bi-annual One Club Open. JJ’s Cantina provides golf clubs and balls, plus the hula-hoop “holes” out on the coastal flats. Come out for a Bloody Mary and stay for One Club. $10 US Proceeds from the One Club Open go to the year-round efforts of the Santa Claus Club.
