Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. March 8, 2016. With the expected arrival of more than 150,000 visitors from both Mexico and abroad in coming weeks, authorities from the three levels of government launched the 2016 Spring Break-Semana Santa Vacation Operative, which will begin this weekend and conclude March 29th.
The strategy for the 2016 Spring Break-Semana Santa Operative will include three rings of safety prevention in areas with the most tourism flow, including the malecón, Mi Playa, Playa Bonita, and Sandy Beach, as well as along the Puerto Peñasco – Sonoyta highway.
The three ring safety strategy is to both improve and shorten time to emergency services. These spots will be set up in areas where events are going on, across the town in general, as well as at the northern, southern, and western exit roads from the city. In addition there will be safety measures at the Cuates Bridge, kilometer 55 along the Puerto Peñasco – Sonoyta highway; kilomer 50 along the Puerto Peñasco – Gulf of Santa Clara, and the Mar de Cortés International Airport at kilometer 25 along the Puerto Peñasco – Caborca highway.
Furthermore, along the corridor from Playa Bonita to Sandy Beach access to beaches will be prohibited for vehicles, four-wheelers, and horses, in order to guarantee the healthy recreation of visitors in this area.
Mayor Kiko Munro also officially presented the Fire Department Lifeguard squad of Puerto Peñasco, who will be in charge of providing emergency and first aid services across different beaches during the 2016 Spring Break and Semana Santa vacation period.
The Mayor explained the 10 fire department lifeguards received training in rescue techniques from instructors of the Secretary of the Navy, as well as first aid in order to guarantee visitors’ safety.
The three fire department lifeguard towers, as well as the Navy lifeguard post, will each be equipped with a jet-ski, first aid kit, as well as a Zodiack rescue boat. These are located along the beach corridor from Sandy Beach to Playa Bonita.
For emergencies, the Mayor urges residents as well as tourists to use the new Puerto Peñasco mobile app, available at Play Store for Android and app store for IOS. In addition to being a tourism guide, it provides information about businesses, restaurants, government services, special events, and direct link to emergency services 066.
