San Peregrino Cancer Walk – Oct. 22nd

A cancer awareness walk, which is also an opportunity to support all those facing the disease, will be held this Saturday, Oct. 22nd, led by the local San Peregrino association.

The invitation is for anyone wishing to participate to meet at the Health Center (Centro de Salud) at the intersection of Blvd. Juarez and Ave. Simon Morúa at 4:30 p.m., for departure at 5 p.m., from where the walk will make its way along Blvd. Juarez to the Old Port.

Lucia López, President of the San Peregrino association, details this is the group’s 11th walk meant to encourage self-checks and prevention while providing strength to those who continue to fight, and of course to remember those who have gone before us.

On this occasion, participants will don black t-shirts with a pink rose and culminate the march in the Old Port with the lighting of luminarias and the burning of paper, which for the group represent the burning of cancerous cells. At the same time, homage will be paid to individuals who have gone before us after valiantly fighting the disease.

The San Peregrino association, which includes more than 25 volunteers, has been supporting women and a number of men facing some type of cancer for several years. This is not limited to prevention, but also includes support through resources such as travel expenses, chemotherapy, prosthesis, and wigs, and particularly spiritual help as this is one of the most needed resources in overcoming cancer.
