Rocky Point Tourism to top 2.1 million in 2023

The Puerto Peñasco Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) detailed their office is busy with logistics, strategies, and promotional campaigns with goals set on at least matching 2022 tourism numbers. OCV Director Lizette Ibarra remarked, in coordination with the Sonora Ministry of Tourism, there are high expectations to meet and even top these goals.

Ibarra reported Puerto Peñasco welcomed 2.1 million tourists in 2022, sustaining ongoing post Covid-19 recovery by reaching numbers similar to 2019 – or rather “pre-Covid”.

She highlighted an average 45% occupancy rate at hotels and resorts, with a reported 2,105,000 number of visitors. This represents an 8% increase in relation to the 1,948,946 tourists in 2021 and economic revenue of $136,816,000 USD (about 2.7 billion pesos).

Work now, stressed Ibarra, is focused on keeping and improving these positive numbers. This goal has included promotion of events and holidays including the February 2023 “Peñascazo Dunas Fest”, the January relaunch of the Puerto Peñasco-Tijuana Calafia Airlines flight, Spring Break, among others.
